Posey to Host Symposium on Combating Human Trafficking

Next Wednesday, January 22nd Congressman Bill Posey will host a Symposium on Combating Human Trafficking in observance of Trafficking Awareness Month. The event will bring together local experts in the field to discuss Florida’s efforts in the fight against trafficking, to gain local insight and perspectives on effective strategies to prevent human trafficking, and to inform the public so that more people engage in combating this growing problem.

“Few things are crueler in our society and world than human trafficking and we have a moral obligation to end it,” said Congressman Posey. “There are many in our community who are actively engaged in fighting human trafficking and meeting the needs of victims. Too many in our society do not understand the growing concern this is, even here in our own community. This symposium will help us focus on serving the victims and preventing human trafficking.”

“Zonta International has long condemned the practice of trafficking in persons, especially women and girls. Zonta Club of Melbourne is committed to developing strategies and seeking partners to educate the general public and law enforcement about human trafficking within our local area and beyond,” said Claire Ellis, Anti-Human Trafficking Chair and Membership Chair of the Zonta Club of Melbourne.

“We commend Congressman Posey for hosting this opportunity of collaboration with law enforcement, child welfare providers, and the Brevard community to raise awareness and further develop a systemic model of protection and healing for our most vulnerable youth,” said Steven J. Murphy, Executive Director of Devereux Florida.
