Posey Supports Legislation to Secure America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve
Washington,
January 27, 2023
Today, with Congressman Bill Posey’s (R-Rockledge) support, the House passed H.R. 21, the Strategic Production Response Act, which prevents non-emergency drawdowns America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve without first establishing a plan to increase the percentage of federal lands leased for oil and gas production.
“The Strategic Petroleum Reserve is a national security asset and should only be tapped in case of a national emergency or as part of a wartime effort,” said Congressman Posey. “Rather than unleashing America’s oil and gas production, the Biden Administration has enacted policies to restrict American energy while draining the reserve to a 40-year low leaving us vulnerable and more dependent on foreign oil.” The bill contains a provision to keep in place President Trump’s moratorium on drilling of the coast of Florida protecting our beaches and marine life. Earlier this month Posey supported House-passed legislation to protect supplies from our Strategic Petroleum Reserve from being sold to foreign adversaries like the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). |
