With the support of Congressman Bill Posey (R-Rockledge) the House of Representatives passed H.R. 849, the Protecting Seniors’ Access to Medicare Act with a bipartisan vote of 307 - 111. The legislation, cosponsored by Posey, repeals Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB), a commission created through the Obamacare Health Care law designed to reduce Medicare spending and make sweeping changes to Medicare benefits.
“There is a real concern that once fully empaneled, the Independent Payment Advisory Board will lead us to rationed care for America’s senior citizens,” said Congressman Posey. “The board will have the authority to determine what benefits are covered and how much physicians are paid with the sole intention of reducing Medicare spending.” The Independent Payment Advisory Board was established as part of Obamacare to make reductions to Medicare spending. The board consists of fifteen appointed members that may make recommendations regarding Medicare cuts without Congressional oversight or input. The Protecting Seniors’ Access to Medicare Act simply terminates the Independent Payment Advisory Board. Posey said that Americans deserve better than an unelected and unaccountable board of bureaucrats making their health care decisions for them. |
