House Votes to Adjourn without Addressing Massive Tax Increases
Washington,
September 30, 2010
By a one-vote margin, the U.S. House of Representatives adjourned without addressing many pressing issues facing the American people including a massive $4 Trillion tax increase set to take effect January 1, 2011. Postponing action on this tax relief will hinder economic recovery and job creation. Failure to act will cost the 15th Congressional District about $1.3 billion over the next 10 years, taking $133 million a year out of the pockets of families and small businesses.
“It’s wrong for Congress to leave town before it completes the people’s business,” said Congressman Bill Posey (R-Rockledge) who opposed the measure to adjourn. “Higher taxes mean fewer jobs, less money for local business expansion, and less disposable income for families struggling to get by.” Tax increases aren’t the only issue the House has failed to address this year. For the first time since 1974, the Majority failed to pass a budget which sets forth priorities for spending taxpayer money. This year, not one of the twelve appropriations bills has been approved and Congress has failed to act on a National Defense Authorization bill to provide for national defense and our troops. |
