Posey Questions Treasury Secretary on Effectiveness of Stimulus
Washington,
July 10, 2009
At a joint hearing of the Agriculture and Financial Services Committee today, Congressman Bill Posey (R-Rockledge) questioned Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner on the effectiveness of the $1.2 trillion stimulus in light of the rising unemployment rate and low levels of consumer confidence.
“Unemployment is at a 26 year high of 9.5% and consumer confidence is still relatively low,” said Congressman Posey. “We’ve lost 2 million jobs since the stimulus was enacted so I wanted to know where the Secretary thought the plan for recovery went wrong and I take it he thinks we’re on the right track. But the evidence on the ground I think suggests the contrary.” A video of the Congressman Posey’s exchange with Secretary Geithner can be seen on Congressman Posey’s YouTube Page. |
