Posey: No Accountability for FISA Abuse

Today, Congressman Bill Posey (R-Rockledge) voted NO on reauthorizing the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) due to continued abuse by federal agencies warrantlessly spying on American citizens. According to an unsealed Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) filing, there were 278,000 instances where the FBI improperly targeted U.S. citizens without a warrant. “While the bill made some reforms, there are still serious concerns with the federal government’s conduct of intelligence surveillance, and I continue to have serious objections to FISA, and how top officials at the U.S. Department of Justice abused this authority without any accountability,” stated Congressman Posey. Congress originally enacted FISA to monitor foreign threats abroad, however, federal agencies have misused FISA powers to spy on law-abiding Americans and meddle in elections. Because of these prior abuses by the DOJ and FBI, Americans overwhelmingly have concerns with how FISA is continuously abused by federal unelected, unrecallable, unaccountable Washington bureaucrats to warrantlessly investigate U.S. citizens without consequences. |
