Posey: REINS Act First Step in Reforming Federal Rulemaking
Washington,
June 14, 2023
With Congressman Bill Posey’s (R-Rockledge) support the House of Representatives passed H.R. 277, the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act or REINS Act to increase accountability and transparency in the federal regulatory process and reassert Congress’s legislative authority to make laws of the United States.
“Congress empowers federal agencies with the authority to implement the laws that Congress passes, not create new laws,” said Congressman Posey, an original cosponsor of the REINS Act. “When federal government agencies exceed their authority in drafting regulations, which have the force of law, Congress has little recourse in holding them accountable for their overreach. The REINS Act requires that major regulations be submitted to Congress for review and approval or disapproval.” Congressman Posey is a leader in Congress on taking-on the growing problem of regulatory overreach. In April Congressman Posey introduced H.R. 2513, the CURB Act, which requires federal agencies to identify three rules that the agency is repealing for any proposed new rule, unless the proposed rule is required by statute passed by Congress.
