Posey Amendment Allows Private and Home-Schooling Parents Access to STEM Educational Resources

The House Science Committee adopted Congressman Bill Posey’s amendment allowing private schools, including faith-based schools, and home-schooling parents, access to resources developed through a new STEM program to develop a new curriculum for teaching mathematics and statistics. Posey’s initiative amends H.R. 1735, the Mathematical and Statistical Modeling Education Act, was unanimously approved by members of the committee.

“The United States is falling behind in the effort to educate and grow our STEM workforce to meet our needs over the next decade,” said Congressman Posey. “Learning math is critical to pursuing a career in engineering, science, and medical or tech-based fields which are needed to promote technological advancement, sustain a modern society and keep America strong. Allowing all American students to reap the benefits of federal investments in STEM education is not only right but secures our nation’s leadership in the world.”
