Posey: Orion Capsule a Sound Choice but NASA’s New Heavy Lift Rocket Still Needs a Destination
Washington,
June 2, 2011
Congressman Bill Posey (R-FL) issued the following statement concerning NASA’s decision to use the Constellation Program’s Orion Capsule to send American Astronauts into space:
“NASA’s decision to utilize the Orion Capsule that was originally designed for the Constellation program is positive news,” said Congressman Bill Posey. “Until the Administration ended it, the Constellation program was our nation’s best hope of furthering our human space flight program and maintaining the critical space workforce and infrastructure in the wake of the premature retirement of the shuttle program.” “The announcement last week was certainly a step in the right direction, and I applaud NASA for it, however I maintain that without a mission with a clear destination and timeline our space program will continue to be adrift.” “On the Space Coast, we have already seen and are continuing to see the high cost of the Administration’s dithering. Many are out of work and we are in the process of losing a national treasure, our space workforce. I congratulate Lockheed Martin and the rest of the Orion team. I look forward to NASA’s decision on the Space Launch System that will carry the Orion vehicle, and I will continue to work with my colleagues to provide NASA with the direction it so desperately needs.” |
