Congressman Bill Posey (R-Rockledge) released the following statement regarding Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address before a joint session of Congress:

“I commend Prime Minister Netanyahu for coming before Congress this morning and bringing his message to the American people. I’ve always been a strong advocate for maintaining our critical relationship with Israel and I was certainly pleased to attend this important address today.

“The Prime Minister’s vision for peace comes from a lifetime of experience living with a situation which has become intolerable. Indeed, a return to the 1967 lines as a starting point for peace poses a very real threat to the safety and security of the Israeli people – a point which became clear to me as I stood on top of the Golan Heights when I visited Israel nearly two years ago.

“Ultimately, before peace can be achieved, the Palestinians and other Arab States in the region must reject radical elements calling for Israel’s destruction and be willing to accept the right of Israel to exist as a sovereign nation. I agree with Prime Minister Netanyahu that it is this failure to accept a free and democratic Jewish state in the Middle East region that has prevented any meaningful dialogue about peace from taking place and any plan for peace from taking hold.

“I will continue to work with my colleagues here in Congress to ensure that we continue to honor our commitments and uphold this important alliance with the Israeli people.”
