Posey Presents Reality Check Community Champion Award to Thomas Reed of Rockledge

Today, Congressman Bill Posey (R-Rockledge) presented Mr. Thomas Reed of Rockledge with the Reality Check Community Champion Award in the Rockledge City Council Chambers. The Award was created by Reality Check Founder Larry Lawton to be given to young adults who show extraordinary service to his or her community.

“Thomas Reed is a true hero and it’s a real privilege to be a part of honoring his service and dedication to helping folks in our community,” said Congressman Posey.

Thomas Reed was nominated for the Reality Check Community Champion Award because of his active involvement in helping “needy families”; both financially and physically. Whether it’s clothing, furniture, or even financial help, Thomas will take care of it. If someone needs a washer or dryer fixed or a single mom needs help moving furniture, he will be there. Reed’s compassion for people is always visible.

As part of a church gospel group (“The Gospel Silverletts”), Thomas Reed is in contact with numerous pastors in Brevard County. He makes it a point to ask the pastors for the names of those in need.  Away from work, Reed is a deacon in his church, The Good Shepherd Higher Ground Ministries. As a caring and compassionate individual, he does not do these things for money, but because he simply likes to help people and thinks it’s the right thing to do.

Larry Lawton, President of the Reality Check Foundation first got the idea for this award when he received the “Hometown Hero Award” from Riverside Bank. “I love what I do and got an award for it,” said Lawton. “I want to recognize young people who do community service outside of their everyday profession. I love to see younger folks getting involved in helping out with great community service projects.  Thomas Reed is recognized as a special role model for teens and young adults in our community”.

Each quarter the Reality Check Foundation presents the award to a special person – a young adult who gives back to the community.  The Reality Check Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization with a mission to educate teens and young adults to the consequences of bad choices.  The Foundation incorporates real life experiences and community involvement along with education to help teens and young adults to make good choices.
