Congressman Bill Posey (R-Rockledge) testified today before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee’s Subcommittee on Highways and Transit requesting that the Committee provide funding for several high priority local construction projects. The Committee is beginning to write the Highway Transportation bill which is expected to be approved by the House later this year.

“I have received a number of highway requests from across my Congressional District and it’s my responsibility to make the case before the Committee for funding projects like the St. John’s Heritage Parkway,” said Congressman Posey. “The highway bill is funded through existing federal gas taxes and this highway bill aims to return those monies to the communities that paid the taxes. With that in mind I’d like to see as much of that money as possible come back to the 15th District in support of our infrastructure needs – I think that’s fair.”

Among the projects Congressman Posey mentioned in his testimony before the Subcommittee was the Palm Bay Parkway/St. John’s Heritage Parkway which is a top priority for Brevard County, the cities of Palm Bay and Melbourne, and the Melbourne Airport Authority. Indian River County’s MPO requested funding for several roads to improve traffic flow and alleviate congestion. Posey also highlighted the Hoagland Boulevard/Pleasant Hill Road corridor as an important link to a designated enterprise zone and the Kissimmee Gateway Airport.
