Posey Awards Congressional Medal of Merit to Iraq War Veteran
October 30, 2010 -
Today Congressman Bill Posey awarded the Congressional Medal of Merit to decorated war veteran, Army Staff Sergeant Paul “Russ” Marek. Marek has also received the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal with Valor, and a Purple Heart during his nine years of dedicated and heroic military service with the U.S. Army.
“It is an honor to present this award to Staff Sergeant Marek for his selfless actions in the line of duty,” said Congressman Posey. “He has sacrificed much for our freedom and his courage and determination are an inspiration.”
"I cannot think of a better way to kick off the Cocoa Beach Air Show and to celebrate Air Force Week other than to honor our hometown hero, SSG Russell Marek,” said Bryan Lilley, President, Cocoa Beach Air Show.
Despite suffering severe injuries when his tank was destroyed by an “IED” during his second tour of duty, Marek has resolved to again become a productive citizen. With the support of his brothers, he is committed to making further progress with his recovery and achieving his personal goals.
