Committee Adopts Proposal on Homeless Children

Today the House Financial Services Committee adopted amendment proposed by Congressman Bill Posey (R-FL) and Congressman Steve Stivers (R-OH) to ensure that any bill the committee reports out that provides funds for homeless assistance programs prioritizes funding for children who are homeless.

“Homelessness has proven to be a stubborn and massive problem throughout our nation,” said Congressman Posey. “Our simple amendment will correct flaws with our federal homelessness programs to ensure that no child falls through the cracks.”

During a Financial Services Committee hearing last year, a witness testified in support of a similar proposal that would change the current definition of homelessness to include more vulnerable families that lack stable homes. “We cannot let our homeless programs suffer because of a faulty definition,” said Posey.
