House Passes Legislation to Continue to Fund FEMA and Nutrition Programs

House Moves Forward with 15 Funding Bills

In an effort to end the federal government shutdown and put federal employees back on the job, the U.S. House of Representatives passed on a bipartisan vote legislation supported by Congressman Bill Posey (R-Rockledge) to fund the Federal Emergency Management Agency (H.J. Res. 85) and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) (H.J. Res. 75) through December 15, 2013.

“I’m glad to see Republicans and Democrats in the House working together to fund various federal agencies,” said Congressman Posey. “By passing separate bills to fund individual agencies, the House has moved forward with bipartisan legislation to fund the government. There is no logical reason for anyone to oppose any of these funding bills. I hope the Senate will start passing individual appropriations bills and stop playing games.”

This week the House has passed a total of 7 individual appropriations bills to fund various federal agencies. The other bills passed by the House this week with bipartisan majorities include:

The Research for Lifesaving Cures Act (H.J. Res. 73) which provides funding for the National Institutes of Health.

The Open Our Nation’s Parks and Museums Act (H.J. Res. 70) provides continuing appropriations for a number of popular educational and recreational destinations including: National Parks, United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Smithsonian Institution, and the National Gallery of Art

The Provide Local Funding for the District of Columbia Act (H.J. Res. 71) to fund DC’s local government.

The Honoring Our Promise to America's Veterans Act (H.J. Res. 72) to fund the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The Pay Our Guard and Reserve Act (H.R. 3230) to ensure that military reserve personnel who perform inactive-duty training receive pay and allowances.

The House will be in session this weekend. In the coming days the House is scheduled to consider legislation to fund additional priorities including our intelligence capabilities, the Border Patrol, Food and Drug Safety, the National Weather Service, nuclear weapons security, Head Start, Indian Reservation programs and back-pay for furloughed federal employees.
