Posey Marks ‘National Community Health Center Week’ with Tours of Local Health Facilities

In honor of “National Community Health Center Week”, Congressman Bill Posey (R-Rockledge) toured the Treasure Coast Community Health Center in Vero Beach today to highlight the important role which community health centers play in meeting the needs of primarily low income, uninsured, or underinsured Americans. Posey also toured the Indian River Health Department which also provides public services to those with health care needs.

“It’s important for folks to know that they do have some options – that there are good services in our community that can see to your primary care needs,” said Congressman Posey. “Community health centers are on the front lines in providing good quality care to many lower-income uninsured families and I’d like to see them play a larger role in our efforts to meet the health care needs of those in our community who lack coverage.”

Community health centers were first funded by the federal government in the mid-1960s through grants to public and nonprofit entities to operate the facilities. Much of the non-federal funding for these centers comes from the local community. Currently there are 7,500 delivery sites serving more than 15 million clients with more than 1,000 grantees.  There are nine community health center sites across the 15th Congressional District serving the needs of thousands of Floridians.
