Today, with the support of Congressman Bill Posey (R-Rockledge), the House passed H.R. 1435, the Preserving Choice in Vehicle Purchases Act, legislation to block efforts by various states and federal agencies to ban the sale of gas-powered vehicles and preserve the right of Americans to purchase the motor vehicle of their choice.
“For many Americans, the cost of electric vehicles is still too high and doesn’t meet their specific transportation needs,” said Congressman Posey, an original cosponsor of the legislation. “By banning gas-powered vehicles, Congress would deny millions of Americans access to affordable transportation required in their everyday lives.” Specifically, H.R. 1435 prevents state standards regarding motor vehicles from changing under prior waivers. It also requires the Environmental Protection Agency to revoke any waivers issued from January 1, 2022, up until this act’s passage that contradicts this bill. “While electric vehicles present an innovative alternative for some, Congress should empower American consumers, not government bureaucrats, to decide through a free market, which cars are available for purchase,” Posey said.
