VA Accountability Office Long Overdue

Washington, April 28, 2017 -

President Trump took an executive action supported by Congressman Bill Posey (R-Rockledge) to create a new “accountability and whistleblower protection office” within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The VA has been under a dark cloud since investigations revealed poor treatment of our veterans at some VA facilities, including malfeasance, incompetence, and outright abuse.

“President Trump’s executive action creating an accountability office at the VA is long overdue,” said Congressman Bill Posey. “One of the greatest responsibilities this country has is making sure our soldiers and veterans receive the quality care and customer experience they deserve.”

The new office of accountability will identify barriers that are preventing bad employees at the VA and its facilities from being removed. Recently, the House passed, with Congressman Posey’s support, the VA Accountability First Act (H.R. 1259), which provides the Secretary of Veterans Affairs with increased flexibility to remove, demote, or suspend any VA employee, including Senior Executive Service employees, for performance issues or misconduct.
