Honoring Veterans Day

Washington, November 11, 2014 -

Congressman Bill Posey (R-Rockledge) released the following statement honoring Veterans Day:

“Veterans Day is the day we as a nation have specifically set aside to salute our veterans for their service to our nation and their sacrifices for our liberty. Because of their dedication to protecting our freedom and defending our nation, it’s critically important that we do all we can to keep the promises made to our brave men and women in uniform.

“Florida is home to some 1.5 million veterans – the third largest population of veterans in the United States. Locally we have some good resources for veterans including the Viera VA Clinic and we are working hard to develop the Lake Nona Medical Center and the new Port Canaveral National Cemetery for veterans. I have several veterans on my staff who consider it their great privilege to help veterans with special needs they may have.

“One of the greatest privileges Katie and I have is greeting our World War II veterans as they depart on their honor flight to our nation’s capital to visit their memorial and greeting them in Washington DC, as they arrive on the National Mall. Their courage, and that of veterans since, has helped change the course of history and protected America and the freedoms we hold dear.

“There’s more work to do in the coming months to serve our military veterans and Congress should take steps to reform and modernize the VA to improve the level of care and quality of service at VA facilities. We owe it to our service members, past and present, and their families, for their commitment to our nation.”
