In an effort to end the federal government shutdown and put federal employees back on the job, the U.S. House of Representatives passed on a bipartisan vote legislation supported by Congressman Bill Posey (R-Rockledge) to fund the National Institute for Health, the Department of Veterans Affairs, Washington DC’s local government, Military Reserves and our National Parks through December 15, 2013.
“It’s a good starting point to try to unwind this shutdown as these are non-controversial issues and there’s no reason to oppose these measures,” said Congressman Posey. “Continued funding for areas such as medical research, our veterans, military reservists and the national parks is bipartisan common sense.”
Specifically, the Research for Lifesaving Cures Act (H.J. Res 73) provides funding for the National Institutes of Health and the Open Our Nation’s Parks and Museums Act (H.J. Res. 70) provides continuing appropriations for a number of popular educational and recreational destinations including: National Parks, United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Smithsonian Institution, and the National Gallery of Art.
Also, the House passed the Provide Local Funding for the District of Columbia Act (H.J. Res. 71) to fund DC’s local government, (H.J. Res. 72) Honoring Our Promise to America's Veterans Act to fund the Department of Veterans Affairs, and (H.R. 3230) the Pay Our Guard and Reserve Act to ensure that military reserve personnel who perform inactive-duty training receive pay and allowances.
