Congressman Posey’s Independence Day Message

Melbourne, FL, July 2, 2010 -

Congressman Bill Posey (R-Rockledge) released the following statement regarding July 4th, our nation’s Independence Day:

“This weekend our nation will celebrate its 234th Independence Day; a day to commemorate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence and the desire of our nation’s Founders to pursue freedom, liberty and self-government.

“This desire for liberty is a God-given desire that runs deep in the human soul. And it is the ability to live out this freedom that has long distinguished the United States from other nations across the globe and throughout history.

“We have the great honor of enjoying this liberty today because of the sacrifices that our nation’s forefathers were willing to make. Once the Declaration of Independence was signed, they knew there was no turning back. For they had forever affixed their names in opposition to the king in favor of a much higher purpose.

“While the freedom we enjoy today takes root in the sacrifices of our nation’s founders, it has endured the test of time because so many brave Americans have heard the call and rushed to its defense. It is not only our right to enjoy freedom but our responsibility to preserve it so our nation’s promise can be realized by future generations of Americans.

“In the end, freedom is our one true inheritance.”
