Posey Cosponsors Term Limits Amendment

Washington, March 17, 2010 -

Congressman Bill Posey (R-FL) recently joined with Congressman Todd Platts (R-PA) in cosponsoring an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to impose term limits on Members of the U.S. House and Senate. Currently Members of the House and Senate may serve an unlimited number of terms in Congress.

“Our government needs fresh faces with new ideas and different approaches,” said Congressman Posey. “There are many career politicians on Capitol Hill writing important business regulations and making policy decisions who, quite frankly, have never experienced the pressure of having to make a payroll or create a successful business plan.”

The bill, House Joint Resolution 14, would prohibit a person from serving more than two full consecutive terms (12 years) as a Senator or six full consecutive terms (12 years) as a Representative. U.S. Senators Jim DeMint (R-GA) and David Vitter (R-LA) have similar legislation in the Senate. “It’s probably the only way we can begin the process of reconnecting Congress with the American people – something too many people in Washington seem to have forgotten,” added Posey.
