House Continues Spending Spree

Washington, December 10, 2009 -

The House of Representatives considered and approved omnibus appropriation legislation today that rolls six appropriations bills into a single 2,500-page bill spending over $350 billion dollars. The omnibus legislation increases spending on these bills by 12% over last year and represents a 24% increase over FY 2008 spending.

“The road to perpetual indebtedness continues to be paved by Washington,” said Congressman Bill Posey (R-Rockledge). “This bill represents a 24% increase over spending for these programs just 2 years ago. Washington’s budget problem is a spending problem and Congressional leaders just don’t seem to understand that. And, if that’s not bad enough, in the coming days they plan on slipping through a measure to allow another $1.8 trillion to be added to our national debt next year, raising it to nearly $14 trillion.”

Posey noted that the omnibus legislation, which he opposed, did not contain any extra NASA funding to keep the Space Shuttle flying to avoid laying-off thousands of skilled American workers and paying the Russians to launch U.S. Astronauts into space.
