Budget Bill is Backdoor for Unaccountable Spending

Today the House considered a budget resolution setting spending levels for FY 2021, creating a spending framework for the next ten years that bypasses regular rules for budget accountability and transparency and will add trillions to the national debt.  Congressman Bill Posey (R-Rockledge) voted against the resolution calling it “more unaccountable spending” that increases the deficit by more than $1.3 trillion a year for the next decade.

“We need to focus on reopening our economy, restarting businesses, getting kids back to school and employees back to work. While there are undoubtedly some positive provisions to help make some of that possible, there are also provisions in the Democrat budget plan that bail out states that lock down, incentivize school closings and pay people more money to stay at home rather than return to their job,” said Congressman Posey. “There is still over a $1 trillion in unspent COVID relief money, but this budget bill spends another $1.9 trillion, bringing total COVID spending to nearly $6 trillion. That’s over $18,000 in spending for every American.”

H.Con.Res. 11 provides $47 trillion in spending over the next ten years with over $13 trillion simply added to the national debt. The resolution also provides for passage of another $1.9 trillion in new stimulus spending through the reconciliation process. Reconciliation was originally designed to keep deficit spending under control but is now being used by Democrat leaders to increase deficit spending with no accountability.
