Viera Veterans Clinic Opens New MRI SuiteFacility Named for Former Congressman Dr. Dave Weldon
Viera, FL,
August 11, 2014
Congressman Bill Posey (R-Rockledge) will attend the opening of the new MRI suite at the Viera VA Outpatient Clinic on Tuesday, August 12th at 9AM. The new facility will be named after former Congressman and practicing physician Dr. Dave Weldon, who represented Florida’s Space Coast in the United States House of Representatives from January 3, 1995 to January 3, 2009. Dr. Weldon also served in the United States Army from 1981 to 1987 and the Army Reserves from 1987 to 1992.
“The Viera VA clinic has been an important and invaluable resource, and the addition of this new MRI facility will improve its ability to better serve Brevard County veterans and meet their medical needs,” said Congressman Posey. “I would like to thank former Congressman Weldon for his hard work in helping to establish the VA clinic here in Viera, for his long service to Brevard residents, to our nation and his commitment to caring for patients all over the Space Coast.” While serving in Congress, Weldon secured passage of legislation to authorize and fund construction of this state of the art VA clinic. He also secured funding for the East Central Florida Hospitalization program and has treated many veterans in Brevard County as a practicing physician at the Viera VA Clinic. The new MRI machine will serve as a problem solving tool for diagnosis of a wide array of neurological, musculoskeletal, abdominal and cardiothoracic diseases by using non-ionizing radiation. The new MRI technology operates with a strong field strength which will allow for significant improvement in image quality. Its configuration as an open MRI machine helps patients suffering from anxiety and claustrophobia. |
