Today the U.S. House of Representatives passed a short-term resolution to continue funding the federal government through December 15, 2013. The resolution also defunds Obamacare, guarantees payment of Social Security benefits and servicing the national debt should the government reach its debt limit.
“The Continuing Resolution not only fully defunds Obamacare, but it also keeps the government operating in the short-term, giving the House and Senate more time to complete a budget for the federal government,” said Congressman Posey who supported the measure. “The health care law has been a drag on our economic recovery and its mandates have deprived many Americans of good job opportunities. The bill also makes sure that no one holds Social Security checks hostage while Congress and the Administration debate the future of Obamacare.
“While the Administration claims that the new health care law has driven down the cost of medical care, the non-partisan actuaries from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services reported in the journal Health Affairs that the growth in overall national health care spending is projected to increase from 3.8% this year to 6.1% next year under Obamacare.
“With the number of Americans participating in the workforce at a thirty-five year low – another half a million Americans gave-up looking for work last month – Washington’s top priority needs to be creating a more competitive environment for businesses of all sizes to grow and add jobs. Eliminating Obamacare’s unpopular and costly mandates on American families and employers will lift a heavy weight off of the economy, speed up our recovery and lead to the creation of American jobs.”
